Things that are Not Helping Your Acne – Acne Tips

Certain daily choices can lead to an increase in blemishes.  Here are acne tips to help improve and reduce breakouts.

There are many acne treatments on the market that vary in their effectiveness at managing this embarrassing and frustrating skin condition. But selecting just the right acne treatment may not be the biggest obstacle to tackling this difficult condition. Actions that you may be taking yourself may be worsening your acne or at the very least minimizing the effectiveness of the treatments that are effective. So, if you suffer from acne you should be aware that the following things are not helping your situation.

 

  • Picking at your skin: The temptation to pop the latest zit that has developed on your face may be tempting but you should know that this action, done repeatedly, can lead to scarring and perhaps even infection.

  • Over-exfoliating: Clean your skin gently once or twice a week with an exfoliating body scrub in order to remove impurities from your pores but don’t overdo it. Done too much exfoliation can cause micro-tears in the skin to develop.

 

  • Quitting too soon: Quick, easy fixes are few and far between in life and the same goes with acne treatments. Many acne sufferers grow frustrated because they do not see instant results with a particular treatment when in fact they may have been helped if they had only stuck with that product.

 

  • Eating sweets and starches: Though it is not a 100% proven fact, processed foods such as white breads, white pasta, potato chips, cookies may contribute to acne according to some studies. Even if this is not the case do any of us really need more of these items in our diet?

 

  • Homemade remedies: In an attempt to save money and out of a sense of desperation, some people try home remedies to fight their acne. One popular home uses toothpaste to help dry out pimples. In fact, toothpaste can exacerbate acne outbreaks by causing redness and skin irritation.

 

  • Too much or improper face washing: Spurred by the myth that washing alone will rid one of acne, many sufferers don’t realize that excessive face washing actually removes essential oils from the skin. This can cause the body to produce more oil to compensate thus increasing the risk of an acne outbreak. Also, acne sufferers (and indeed everyone) should also remember to use a clean sponge or washcloth each time they wash their face.

 

There are many myths out there when it comes to how to treat acne and just as many people who are desperate to rid themselves of this irritating condition. Selecting a common sense solution and ridding oneself of habits that may be worsening this condition is the best overall strategy to combating outbreaks.
