5 Signs of Skin Dehydration

Because we are composed mostly of water, it is not surprising that we need quite a bit of it to remain healthy. But a distinction should be drawn between people who normally have dry skin and those who don’t but are suffering from dehydration. At Apothederm we believe that one of the first steps to healthy glowing skin is proper hydration. We sell hydrating face moisturizer and hydrating cream for the face that nourishes the skin and keeps its appearance healthy and glowing. For that reason we wish to help consumers guard against unhealthy, skin dehydration. Here are some signs that your skin lacks proper hydration.

  • Tightness: Often people suffering the effects of dehydration feel tightness and even a burning sensation of the skin.
  • Rough texture: Properly hydrated skin should feel smooth to the touch. Poorly hydrated skin will not only be rough but it will often look dull and dry.
  • Psoriasis: In cases of extreme dehydration, a person can develop this skin condition that is characterized by rough, dry skin, which turns into severely scaly skin.
  • Breakouts, irritation and dry patches: Skin that is dehydrated creates more oil to compensate for the water that it is not getting. Often, this creates skin conditions such as dry patches, etc.
  • Cracking: Skin cracking is a problem for two reasons. The first reason is that skin is the body’s first line of defense against illness and infection. Germs, bacteria etc., are able to penetrate cracked skin more easily than healthy skin. Next, cracked skin is often painful as well as unsightly.

Treating skin dehydration

Of course, a certain level of skin dehydration comes with aging. This is mostly due to the moisturizing cream-dehydrationcumulative effects of aging on the skin such as sun, harsh weather, and bad habits. Lifestyle, diet and heredity also contribute greatly to dryer skin as we age. Older skin not only becomes dry, it also becomes looser and more fragile. In addition to drinking more water at the first sign of skin dehydration, we recommend the following.

  • Wash and exfoliate the skin with a gentle cleanser so as not to strip lipids from the skin.
  • Use an oil-based moisturizer
  • Protect your skin with a sunscreen of at least SPF 15.

Protect the body’s largest organ and its first line of defense against germs by keeping it properly hydrated. You will feel better and look healthier.
