Coenzyme Q10: General in the War against Aging Skin

We’ve written about antioxidants and the role they play in counteracting the damaging effects of free radicals on the skin. Moreover, we’ve identified some of the common antioxidants such as vitamins A, C and E, but according to some experts not all antioxidants are created equal. Some are in fact “super” anti-oxidants because they are particularly effective in seeking out and neutralizing free radicals. One such “super” anti-oxidant that has been in the news in recent years is a substance known as Coenzyme Q10. Not only does Coenzyme Q10 (also known as ubiquinone) neutralize free radicals, it also helps the body produce energy and of course helps maintain healthy skin. This is why it is a key ingredient in our anti-aging skin products.

What is Coenzyme Q10?

Coenzyme Q10 is an antioxidant that is naturally produced in our bodies as well in many foods and supplements. It comes in two forms: ubiquinol and ubiquinone, the oxidized form, which the body partially converts to ubiquinol. Scientific studies show that among its many biological function it helps with oxygen utilization and energy production, particularly in heart muscle cells. Unfortunately, as we age, Coenzyme Q10 production declines leaving the body susceptible to the signs of old age such as aging skin. Our young bodies and aging skin needs this substance to be replenished as it is with our eye cream. Anti-aging products commonly use this particularly effective anti-oxidant in their formulations.

Coenzyme Q10’s Role in Supporting Health Skin

Research has shown that using as little as 1 percent Coenzyme Q10 cream for five months, causes wrinkles to subside and improves the skin’s appearance. Moreover, skin cells and fibers are protected from further damage by free radicals when Coenzyme Q10 is added topically to the skin. Lack of Coenzyme Q10 impedes the body’s ability to produce collagen and elastin. Collagen is important because it makes your skin firm, while elastin gives your skin flexibility.

Finally, to paraphrase George Orwell, “All anti-oxidants are created equal but some anti-oxidants are more equal than others.” Coenzyme Q10 plays a commanding role in restoring supple, elastic skin damaged by the effects of old age. Our nourishing eye cream contains it and several other anti-oxidants and key ingredients that will:

  • Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduce dark circles and puffiness
  • Help firm delicate skin around the eye
  • Refresh tired eyes
