Like always, the Spring/Summer 2013 runways were covered with an amazing variety of makeup looks. Each designer had their own inspiration and each makeup look reflected a unique perspective. But from all this chaos came a theme of the contrast between subtle and strong. With this is mind, it’s easy to pull off the runway looks in real life. Play up your favorite feature, and keep the rest of your makeup simple. Check out the top trends from Spring/Summer 2013 Fashion Week and decide for yourself which trends you want to rock this spring:
Strong, angled, and thick eyebrows were seen in many of the spring/summer fashion shows. Tapered at the end, naturally full, or dark and dramatic, spring/summer eyebrows are about being bold. Seen at: Etro, Jason Wu (above), Anthony Vaccarello, Marc Jacobs
How to achieve: Fill in brows with a pencil or powder in a shade close to your natural hair color.
Dramatic Eyeliner Whether it was dramatic winged liner, a neon pink rim around the eye, or smudgy black liner it was clear there was a strong emphasis on bold eyeliner looks. Seen at: BCBG, Thierry Mugler (above), Roberto Cavalli
How to achieve: Pick up a felt tip eyeliner and draw a winged cat eye, or chose a black kohl pencil and smudge around the eyes for a grungy look. Colored eyeliner like white, blue, pink, and green were also seen all over the runways. Mediterranean inspired shades like ocean blue and teal were especially prominent.
Big lashes were all over the runways this season. Wide flirty fringes, clumpy grungy looks, and 60’s inspired lashes just some of the many types of bold lashes seen. Seen at: Jean Paul Gaultier (above), Gucci, Moschino.
How to achieve: False lashes are great for a party or a night out, but for the day time stick to a thickening and lengthening mascara and apply it liberally.
Dramatic lips were another popular choice on the runways. Beautiful reds, bright poppies, and playful pinks dominated the runway. Think strong, bold, brilliant colors in a matte or slightly-matte finish. Seen at: Missoni, Prada, Giles, Dries Van Noten.
How to achieve: Pick up a bold new lip color in a bright coral, pink, fuchsia, or red shade and apply it carefully with a lip brush. Stay away from glossier formulas and stick to traditional or matte lipsticks.
Pinks makeup was prominent on the spring/summer runways. UK Glamour proclaimed it, “the colour of the season!” Lips, eyes, blush, and streaks in the hair were a few of the many ways the color pink graced the runway. Seen at: Donna Karan (above), Oscar de la Renta, Dolce and Gabbana.
How to achieve: Buy a new lip color in a bright pink, try some pink eye shadow, or try mixing rosy and peach blushes together for a fresh spring flush.
Long gone are the dewy looks from winter. Now, skin should look fresh, clean, natural and velvety. Seen at: Helmut Lang (above), Tory Burch, Rick Owens, Versace.
How to achieve: Try a sheer foundation, BB cream, or a tinted moisturizer over the top of a luminizing primer. Top with a translucent powder to set the makeup and bronzer for a sunny glow.
