Male Stretch Marks: Why they Form and How to Get Rid of Them

Chalk it up to one of those persistent myths about the opposite sex that exists in our culture, but most people think of stretch marks as affecting only women. They think of pregnant women who are plagued by stretch marks during and after pregnancy. However, as any male body builder can tell you, under certain circumstance men can also be burdened by unsightly stretch marks. In fact, some men are actually predisposed to developing stretch marks for a number of reasons. At Apothederm we sell anti-stretch marks cream that is effective and has been tested in various clinical trials. Therefore, we would like to dispel the notion that stretch marks affect only women.

What Causes Stretch Marks in Men?

Lack of Moisture: Most men don’t moisturize or pay as much attention to skin care as women do. Proper hydration internally makes the skin more supple and elastic. Supple, elastic skin resists stretch marks more easily than poorly hydrated skin. Apart from drinking 8 ounces of water a day as we all should, men can use a cream for stretch marks such as the kind we sell on our site. It is equally effective on men as it is on women.

Overproduction of corticosteroid: The hormone corticosteroid decreases the amount of collagen in the skin making it less elastic. This can be worsened in men who take certain kinds of steroids in order to aid their muscle building efforts.

Body training: As we’ve already said, stretch marks are not uncommon istretch marksn male (and female) body builders. As athletes bulk up and build bigger muscles, the skin tries to accommodate the change by stretching itself to its limits.

Weight gain: Weight gain associated stretch marks plagues men as much as it does women. Again, skin is forced to stretch faster to accommodate the increase in weight.
